Original Sweco screens and parts are designed around the machine's specific tolerances. That means the mesh, the glue, the frame, and the tension system work as one piece. Aftermarket parts can be fine for some things, but I've seen enough failures to know that "compatible" doesn't always mean "identical." A generic screen might save you money on the invoice and cost you twice that in downtime.

What's the difference between a Sweco separator and a Sweco finishing machine?

Both use vibration, but they solve different problems.

A separator is used to classify or dewater material—think "divide and separate." A finishing machine, by contrast, is used to deburr, polish, radius, or clean the surface of machined metal parts. You put parts and media into a vibratory bowl or tub, the vibration makes them rub against each other, and after a set cycle time you get smoother parts.

Why this confuses people: many shops need both. You run parts through the finishing machine to clean up the edges, then you need a separator to separate the finished parts from the media. So if someone talks about "Sweco finishing," they might mean a finishing mill, not a screener. Ask which one they mean before you order parts.

What shouldn't I expect a Sweco separator to do?

This is the question people don't ask enough. A Sweco separator is excellent at particle size classification, solids-liquid separation, and scalping. It's also used in oilfield operations for solids control and is part of Sweco's wellhead equipment history. But it is not a filter press, not a decanter centrifuge, and it won't remove dissolved contaminants from fluid.
