This checklist is for when you have two or three vendor proposals in hand (or even one, from Sweco directly) and need to figure out which one actually makes financial sense.

Another hidden cost: training. Sweco machines have specific setup procedures for screen tensioning. If your team needs training, that's often billable separately. Get a written quote for it.

What to look for: What motor is specified? Is it standard efficiency or premium? Are there dual motors for high-G applications?
This is where most first-time buyers get tripped up. A quote might list “standard motor,” which could be a 3-phase, 60-Hz model suitable for North America. But if you're in Europe or need 50 Hz, you'll need a different configuration. I remember a quote that didn't specify the voltage. The vendor said “it'll work.” It didn't. We had to buy a transformer (ugh, again).
Ask: what exact motor (brand, model, Hz, volts, frame size) is included? If it's not on the quote, request it in writing.
Step 5: Ask About Lead Time—and Actually Verify It
What to do: Ask for a written, guaranteed delivery date. Not an estimate.
People think “8-10 weeks” means 8-10 weeks. In my experience, 40% of equipment deliveries slipped by at least 2 weeks. The “cost” of a delay? For us, it was lost production time: about $1,800/day in our finishing department.
I built a cost calculator after getting burned twice: for every $10,000 in quote savings, if the delivery is uncertain by 2 weeks, the actual cost becomes $10,000 + (14 days × $1,800/day) = $35,200. Suddenly the more expensive quote with a firm delivery date looks cheap.
If the vendor can't guarantee a date, factor in a buffer. In our procurement policy, we now require quotes with ±1 week delivery commitment, or we add 15% to the budget for rush shipping.
Step 6: Consider the Service Network (Not Just the Sales Office)
What to investigate: Where are the nearest Sweco service centers or authorized repair depots?

- Warranty Fine Print: Standard is 12 months. Ask what voids it. Unauthorized modifications? Using third-party parts? Running the machine outside specified conditions? Clarify in writing.
- Don't Assume Compatibility: If you're replacing an old Sweco unit, the new one might not fit the same footprint or electrical connections. Get a drawing before ordering.
